American wrestler interviewer and commentator Gene Okerlund has died aged 76.
The nickname ‘Mean Gene’ became famous as an interviewer in the American Wrestling Association (AWA) promotion in the 70s and in 1984 he started working for the WWE (then called WWF), where «he became as recognizable as the fighters» whom he interviewed and whose combats he commented on. In 1993 Okerlund went to WCW, a promotion that merged several years later with WWE.
In 2006 ‘Mean Gene’ Okerlund made his way into the WWE Hall of Fame as «the most recognizable interviewer in the history of wrestling.»
